About Us

Sons of AMVETS is a Service Organization comprised of male descendants of American Veterans. Sons of AMVETS is a subordinate organization of AMVETS (American Veterans), the Sons of AMVETS exist solely to promote the interests of the parent body of AMVETS.

As Sons of AMVETS we aim to serve our AMVETS, serve our youth, serve our town, serve our country, and serve our hospitalized veterans.

 

  • History

    In 1974 the Sons of AMVETS began with a single Squadron in Ohio at Vermillion, Post #22.

    In 1984 the National Department of Sons of AMVETS was chartered by the National Department of AMVETS.

    Since then 19 State Departments have been chartered, with 354 local Squadrons, and a total membership of over 22,000 members.

    The Department of Indiana Sons of AMVETS was chartered in 1988 under National Sons Commander John V Creech. Indiana's first Department Commander, Jim Ehrhart was from Hartford City Squadron #23. Indiana currently has 24 Squadrons. (Want to be the 25th?, Start a Squadron)

    The Sons of AMVETS National Headquarters at 1395 E Dublin Granville Rd. Suite #115, Columbus, OH 43229, was established in 2001.

  • Sons of AMVETS Preamble

    We, the Sons of AMVETS (American Veterans), fully realizing our responsibility to our parents, community, State and Nation, associate ourselves for the following purposes:

        To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;

        To safeguard the principles of freedom, liberty and justice for all;

        To promote the cause of peace and goodwill amongst nations;

        To maintain the freedom of our country;

        To preserve the fundamentals of democracy;

        To perpetuate the friendships and associations of the AMVET
        organization; and

        To dedicate ourselves to the cause of mutual assistance...this by the
        Grace of God.

  • Eligibility Requirements

    Eligibility for membership in the Sons of AMVETS shall be limited to all male descendents, grandsons, adopted sons and stepsons, fathers, husbands, widowers, and brothers of members of AMVETS and the deceased members of AMVETS, or the personnel who died and would have been eligible for membership in the parent organization, and are at least eighteen (18) years of age and is not eligible for membership in the parent organization. This is not to include in-laws of any type.
